Road crashes kill 17 in 4 dists

www.shahriar.info (শাহরিয়ারের স্বপ্নবিলাস) Dhaka, 11 May 2012 At least 17 people were killed and 20 other injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and Gaibandha districts on Friday. A senior reporter was killed when a city bus knocked his motorbike at Dhanmondi in the capital on Friday. Bibhas Chandra Saha, 45, a special correspondent of The Independent, died on the spot. The accident took place around 5 in Dhanmondi area while he was going to his office. Besides, a photo journalist was killed and his friend injured as a city bus ran over a rickshaw carrying them in city's Shahbag area on Friday noon. The deceased was identified as Titu, 38, a photo journalist of daily Matobad. Jannatul Ferdaus, friend of the deceased, told banglanews, "A city bus of United Paribahan hit the rickshaw carrying us from behind near Hotel Ruposhi Bangla at 1:30pm, leaving Titu dead on the spot and injured me." A man was killed as a! n unidentified vehicle ran over him in Kalampur area on Dhaka-Aricha highway in the upazila of Dhaka early Friday. The deceased was identified as Kharez Mia, 55, son of late Makbul Baperi of city's Shaympur Thana. Quoting locals, Dhamrai Thana SI Imam Hossain told banglanews, "An unidentified vehicle ran over Kharez in Kalampur area on early Friday, leaving him dead on the spot."
